"Return to the Mountain 2010" -Cousin Dave

Cousin Dave's stay at the Poor House was pretty epic. During his visit we took a ski trip to Keystone with the Rod, Cait, Kels, and Nor. Though we didn't spend all day on the mountain, it was still a great day! Nice conditions, not too cold!

Check out this collage from our gondola ride up!

Molly and Shane (and bump)'s Christmustache Party

Nothing like an ugly sweater and mustache Christmas party to get in the holiday mood!

Even bump had a mustache!

I hope you almost peed your pants like I did when I saw this picture

The Holiday Season is Upon Us!

Beer Tasting and Ice Skating!

Had a little surprise shin-dig for our Rynny last night in celebration of her birthday! We started at a brewery where we were allowed to sample FOUR beers each without purchasing! Let me just tell you, we took full advantage. Those were generous samples, too. Then, we walked to the free outside skating rink downtown (are you noticing a theme, here?). This is where we discovered that Foxy is a machine on ice skates. She was showing us all up with her crossovers and whatnot. I'll let you experience a picture walk of our evening.
The girl is 25 and proud of it! Special shout out to my preschoolers for helping me make her accessory...

Walking from one destination to the next. This is right when Kathryn figured out that we were walking to an ice rink.

The people at the rink were (extremely) accommodating and let us hang up our birthday sign for Kathryn! (Sign compliments of Kels)

Early Mornings at the PH

As you may have gathered, a number of the PH residents have some form of employment, more or less. Or maybe they are just waking up in the early hours to get some skiing in. Either way, many of us must arise quite early in the chill of winter mornings. Here are some favorites that get us out of bed in the morning....these are enjoyed in no particular order and with varying frequencies...

COFFEE...EVERY DAY

Tea...EVERYDAY

hard boiled eggs...on a good day

If cookies are made the night prior, they make a great morning pick-me-up!

Give Thanks!

The PH hosted a successful Thanksgiving dinner this past Thursday! We kicked off the day with a good old fashioned game of football in Wash Park. It's not important who won, or who lost... what's important is that we got to spend time together on a beautiful day. Aaaand to the opposing team let's just say that we are going to practice hard and come back with a victory next year.
We hope you had a wonderful day and that everyone is as thankful for each other as we are for everyone in our lives.

Our Thanksgiving Den Mother! The Lovely JM did a wonderful job with the turkeys
We also had a great night of Wizard Sticks. The game where you imbibe beers at a moderate and safe pace and then duct tape them together to create a jousting stick. You team up with a ''steed'' and then joust. Again, it's not important who the victor is... but the teams were Kelsey and Andrew, Norah and Adam and Caiti and Brendan. Obviously, there were several injuries but it was worth it for the joust of a lifetime.
Hats off to Kelsey and Andrew for being newbie champions of the sport!
Adam's jousting stick is definitely lifted off the ground.

Everyone is still smiling...

Aaaaand JOUST!

Beer can to the face! What will I tell the preschoolers???

Foxtail?

Henry, our beloved furry friend, has been dealing with some issues the past few days. On a hike with Kelsey, he somehow ingested a mysterious plant that has left him with questionable symptoms: eating everything in sight (including couches, trash, fibers of any sort, grass), unquenchable thirst, licking his chops 24/7 (which leaves his whole mouth wet and at times foaming), making a burping sound as he licks his chops, and restlessness. Norah was terrified that it was rabies at first but we are pretty sure that it can be ruled out after the vet trip. Caiti seems to believe this is a result of eating a "fox tail," not fox the animal, it is a plant (kind of like a cat tail, but smaller)

The alleged "foxtail"

Though his health seems to be improving day by day, he had us all worried for a bit. Kelsey and Norah took him to the vet early Saturday morning, however, the vet's advice didn't prove to be very helpful. Turns out that the Bendaryl and love was all he needed to be nurtured...well, that and the weird ball of random ingested objects that he threw up ON my bed...I will love you always Henry, even if you vomit on my bed!

In other news...today is the birthday of Miss Caiti as well as our wonderful friend Nicole! Happy Birthday gals!

Are you in the Market for Basil?

Our Dear Kathryn has quite the green thumb. Her "baby" basil is now quite full and is a potential risk for taking over the kitchen. Kathryn harvests it as often as possible for cooking, but has so much extra basil that when guests come over, she asks; "Are you in the market for basil?"... only something our Rynny would say. Keep up the good work, Ryn! That's one less grocery item the PH has to purchase!

pOoR hOuSe DoEs YoGa

The PH had a wonderfully active day yesterday (video to come). We capped of the night with a group trip to Yoga- all five of us managed to score a free first class! After feeling the power of Om for about an hour and fifteen minutes, we worked up our appetite quite a bit. We came home and made beef stroganoff. The beef was compliments of the lovely J.M. and boy was it delicious! The PH sends its thanks. :)

Poor House Stats

Well. The weekend is coming to an end and the Poor House has taken a beating. All at once, our garbage disposal is broken and does not drain. Kelsey's shower is leaking. Our porch light has been out for about 2 weeks and to top it all off, WE DON'T HAVE ANY HOT WATER. Glad this all came to a head on Sunday, when everyone at the realty office is ready and willing to take our call (NOT).
The residents of the PH don't let these setbacks get them down, however. Stay tuned for a posting of how they spent their day today.

Happy Halloween!!!!

Hester Prynne, Mother Nature, Audrey Hepburn, A Reject Rockette and A Jockey
Well folks, the residents of the Poor House had a rager of a shin dig last night. Creative costumes were worn by all. We were thrilled that the only furniture casualty of the evening was our coffee table, since that was on its last leg anyway. Although our 18 pumpkins have pretty much rotted and been ravaged by the squirrels, our Halloween party had plenty of spirit and joy. We hope everyone has had a wonderful Halloween weekend!

Things are getting chilly...

We're trying to make it to November 1st without turning on the heat... true to PH form. The weather here is fickle and this week has decided to be very cold, but next week it apparently plans on being 70 degrees. No complaints, there.
Anyway, for right now things are getting mighty brisk here. We have to layer and bundle and sit closely to each other in order to conserve body heat. We drink tea about 12 times a day to warm ourselves and have 4 candles burning most of the time... it's true that we used our fireplace but we're already out of wood. Any burly men out there feeling generous? We will pay you in hot toddies and cookies if you chop wood for us and deliver it to our doorstep. Now we're starting to sound desperate...maybe it's time to turn on the heat...

EMPLOYMENT UPDATE!!!

THIS JUST IN:

Caiti is employed! the benefactor: target
Norah is employed! the benefactor: denver university early learning center

Kat had an interview today

Things are looking up!! Maybe the heat will be turned on soon....

Fireplace

Tonight the ladies of the Poorhouse broke in the fireplace with a fire. They did this 1) because it was freezing in the house and 2) to hold off on using the heater as long as possible. Hence, they heated the basement with a fire and hung out there the entire night for warmth.

Pumpkin Parade

On Friday night the Poor House hosted an extravaganza of sorts. The idea was to bring a pumpkin, carve it, and enjoy a hot toddy. I think it's safe to say the party was a success. We carved 18 pumpkins and lined the sidewalk with halloween splendor. So much so that children came from far and wide to ooh and ahh at this 8th wonder of the world. Ok, so it was 2 small children passing this morning, but it warmed our hearts with halloween glee. We have posted some pictures so that you too can ooh and ahh at the magnificence from the comfort of your own home (free of charge).
